🌳 Sweet Spring Wishes from The Trees

❤️ Dearest lovers-

🌳 If you missed it,
you can see show & rehearsal photos & hear the recording here.

💘 If you were there,
you know we just performed concert readings of The Trees for two giddy audiences, packed into two unique and idyllic venues.

🐛 If you have an ear worm,
"Here Comes the Man" starts at 10:50 on the recording.

💘 If you are like me,
you are still riding high from the ecstatic experience of sharing this eco homo erotic musical about the love our ecosystem offers us and the love we all yearn for. You are still soaking up that community intimacy you felt, whether it was at legacy leather bar The Eagle or at public radio station KALW's event space.

💰 If you are a donor,
you did this! You raised $25k, which funded a year of dramaturgical support and 30 hours of rehearsal. You supported new arrangements of 14 songs, paid 12 artists, staged two concert readings, and inspired 150+ audience members. As Eagle Players Artistic Director Andrew Calabrese said at the Wednesday night show, "This is what resistance looks like."

📖 If you didn't get to read it at the show,
you can still browse the playbill to meet the cast and other theater-makers and read Jaron Vesely's deep-dive dramaturgical essay about the project.

🌳 If you are new to this magical forest,
welcome to The Trees community. You can expect occasional updates on this list when we have our next show or reach other musical-growing benchmarks.

📻 If KALW decides to air the show,
I will let you know. Maybe we'll throw a listening party. I'll also reach out when 3Girls posts the video.

💝 If you are wondering what comes next,
it's orchestration, adding more musical instruments to the score. This will cost money. You can still give to The Trees.

🌏 If you want to know when The Trees will be onstage again,
stay on this list to be the first to hear about our WORLD PREMIERE. I am now circulating our submissions-ready package for this 80-minute musical: an improved script, an arranged score, and a broadcast-quality recording of our KALW performance.

If you want to see more of my work,
I have two short plays coming up very soon. 🦪 4/22 "The Chalice & the Pearl” in Left Coast’s He Said She Said They Said at Strut in the Castro, and 🍎 5/22-6/1, "The Apple Tree" in Nomad Theatre’s All A-Bloom, in Bloomington, Illinois.
